Voters will see several tax measures on the November ballot, but Measure AA is different. It is not a parcel tax, a tax on homeowners or renters, or a tax on everyday purchases. Instead, Measure AA updates Berkeley's existing tax on sugary drink distributors and dedicates those funds to specific purposes, including school nutrition and gardening programs, community health initiatives and public accountability. Berkeley voters have supported this approach for more than a decade because it delivers measurable benefits for children's health and community well-being. Measure AA builds on that success while helping these programs keep pace with rising costs.
