WHAT IT FUNDS

How Measure AA Funding Will Be Used

Measure AA would increase Berkeley’s 2014 historic tax on distributors of sugary drinks from 1 cent per ounce to 2 cents. It is estimated that the measure would raise an estimated $2.2 million annually.

The measure would also codify how all funding will be allocated:

  • 42.5% reserved for Berkeley Unified School District nutrition and gardening programs

  • 42.5% for community-based nutrition education, health services and improved water access program

  • 15% to pay for administrative overhead, public oversight and annual reporting

By increasing the tax levied on distributors of sugary drinks to 2 cents per ounce, Measure AA lets us stay ahead of inflation and continue to fund community-based health solutions for our kids, our community and our most vulnerable.
